Comeback Medvedev Claims Maiden Trophy in Over Two Years

Nineteen of Medvedev's twenty-one titles have been achieved on hard courts

A resurgent Medvedev won his maiden title for nearly 30 months with success over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament championship match.

Medvedev, a former top-ranked player, has experienced a torrid year, managing just one win at the big events and experiencing a difficult moment at the US Open.

Medvedev's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his serve in specific - caused him dropping out of the top ten and finally separating with former mentor Gilles Cervara.

Presently collaborating with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, he has gradually improved in the recent weeks - peaking in a closely contested three-set victory over challenger Moutet.

It is Medvedev's first title after the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hard surface after that period of that year.

Victory also signifies he has achieved twenty-one championships at 21 various competitions.

"This marks the first occasion I'm at a event with my two daughters simultaneously, so to get a title is especially meaningful," commented tennis professional Medvedev.

"This title is in honour of my younger daughter my daughter, because the initial championship I won when my child Alisa was born was for her."

The tennis star, the past champion, had lost his previous six championship matches, including in that event earlier this year.

The player's counter-punching approach and regular outbursts on court had prompted commentators to doubt if his capacity to play at the elite level was finished.

Yet the athlete has altered his approach in the last few weeks, making an effort to approach the net and compete aggressively, supported by an enhanced serving game.

The champion came back from a deficit in the initial set against the challenging Frenchman, securing 4 of the concluding five games to take the lead.

The competitors traded break points in the second set before the challenger, attempting for his maiden tour victory, gained dominance to force a final set.

He saved 4 initial chances in a tight third set before Medvedev secured a break to that score to serve for the match.

Appropriately, the winner clinched the win with a rally at the front of the court, with Moutet failing to manage a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
